Analysis of our Mock Digipack

Overall, I am reasonably happy with our mock digipack. Although it uses the same image on each side, I am relatively happy that it conforms enough to the general conventions of Boy Band digipacks.

It conforms with the very popular convention to show all the members of the boyband and to ensure that they are all well dressed and looking quite smart.

We also have made sure that the name of our group stands out. This is also important as it means that the album would stand out in a shop. Which is the main objective of CD's (to sell and earn money).

Our back cover includes the legal necessities, but also has a bar code which is vital in the sale of the CD in store.

Despite all the other successes I believe we had, the picture above shows (in my opinion) the biggest shortfall with our digipack. The picture above clearly shows that the background we used behind the song names means that the song names are not clearly visible to the viewer. This is a big problem and we should have used another image as the background to ensure the song names are clearly viewed.

Our own digipack

We were given a genre of music and made our own digipack according to the genre. The genre was boyband, so here is our front cover of an album:-

Here is the back cover of the album:-

Planning for Mock Digipack

Because we were told to do a mock digipack for a Boyband. We decided to get four people that are well dressed to pose in front of a background which we will then edit after on photoshop. We decided to use the wall outside the sixth form block as our background as because it is plan, it makes our Boyband stand out, which is our main objective.

For the front of the digipack, we thought of using a black and white filter which seems to be quite conventional with boybands.(As shown below)

We also decided on using a red font in ours which we thought would stand out, so that the audience could see the name of our group stand out.

Analysis of a album digipack

The colouring of this is similar to the colouring of the pink floyd album (see below). This could be to get Pink Floyd fans to support them. Pink Floyd have a massive fan base and this could be a good idea to tap into that fan base.

The front cover doesn't show the band members, but instead shows one man that appears to be on a golden path. This could be a visual metaphor to show that this man (could be representing their group) are on their path to glory.
The name of the band, Muse is in their standard font with a line above and below the name. This is kept standard from album to album, which lets fans know what to look out for in an album cover.

The album name is in the corner and is out of the way and attention is not drawn to it (because the image in the centre has attention drawn to it). However, the background is white and the band name/album name is easily visible because of the white background.

The back cover shows all members of the band in a washed out black and white effect. They appear to be walking along a path, which could be a reference to the front cover. They are dressed in fairly casual wear that is quite 'rocky' and they look quite 'cool'. The image of them is quite blurred to the viewer can not see their faces. This could be to hide their identities or just for visual effect.

The track list is on the top right of the back and attention is drawn to this as it is in colour, whereas the rest of the back cover is in black and white. The colouring of the track list is different colours of the rainbow, which is a reference to the front cover.

The bar code is quite large and sticks out at the bottom of the back cover. The legal things are around the barcode, which is pretty standard as digipacks go.

The disk is all white and doesnt stick out as much as the front cover does. The standard Muse sign is on the right with the album name just below. Attention is drawn to the band name, which shows that the band want to show the name of the band more. The legal 'stuff' is on the left which shows who they are signed to.

There is a similar pattern on the disk as there is on the front, except (as stated earlier) on the disk, the pattern is not coloured in.
